From the
President:
“Intentionality”
I asked my Sunday School class, “What does it mean
to be an ‘intentional intercessor’?” I believe today many
Christians are so busy that they’ve forgotten how to be ‘intentional
intercessors.’ Read again I Timothy 2:1 – 8.
“I urge, then, first of all, that
requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for
everyone—for kings and all those in authority, that we may live
peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.”
Intercession on behalf of everyone! That is what it is all about.
When we became a Christian, our responsibilities
didn’t end—they increased. We are here to worship God and be His
tools to win a lost and dying world. We cannot all go to other
places in the world to spread the Good News of Jesus Christ.
But we can be intercessors for those who do go. We can hold them up
to the throne of grace for power, strength and wisdom.
Hebrews 7:25 says,
“Therefore he is able to save
completely those who come to God through him, because he always
lives to intercede for them.” If we don’t intercede for family,
friends, co-workers and others, who will? Should a hurting world be
lost simply because we didn’t intercede for them? We have a
responsibility to intercede to God on behalf of those around us; and
not just a matter-of-fact prayer, but an ‘intentional’ one.
We must purposefully plan to pray every day for
someone who needs Jesus. I challenged my class to write down five
names on a note card and become an ‘intentional intercessor’ for the
salvation of those individuals. I challenge you to do the same. Look
around you; don’t you see them hurting and dying without Jesus? Can
we keep blinders on for the rest of our lives and think it won’t
affect us? Become an ‘intentional intercessor’ today. Write down
their names and watch God answer your prayers for their salvation.
